Dorothy Elaine (nee Evelyn) Taylor
April 18, 1922 -- July 10, 2020
It is with sad but grateful hearts that we announce the death of Dorothy Elaine (nee Evelyn) Taylor due to natural causes in Brampton, Ontario on July 10, 2020. She was born in Bartica, Guyana on April 18, 1922, and raised in Barbados, but it was in Canada that she made her home and raised her family of four sons. She is survived by her brother Victor Evelyn (99), three sons, Robert, David, and Harry, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Noel Everton, her second-born son Patrick James, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Words of condolence and tribute have been coming in from all parts of the Americas from people who knew Dorothy. She was known for her loving heart and positive attitude. For many her home was a second home, a place of acceptance, security, and love; a place where people were always welcome and life was celebrated. Dorothy loved children and was a tremendous “encourager.” She was famous for saying “that’s tremendous” and “there is no such word as ‘can’t.’”
Dorothy enjoyed her family, friends, and relatives, sponsoring three of her brothers for immigration to Canada. She was an active member of St. Philip’s Church, Montreal West, teaching Sunday School and encouraging her four children in many activities at the church. She also enjoyed playing whist on Thursday nights at the YMCA and was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts serving as Treasurer for a number of years.
“Dot” loved to cook and entertain: Fish cakes, Curry chicken, Pudding & Souse, Peas & Rice, Cou-Cou, Jug-Jug, and Bajan Hot Sauce.
Once her children had grown and left home Dorothy proved that she was a talented dress designer and seamstress. One of her clients was the mother of a former Canadian Prime Minister.
